Artist’s Biography: Sherry Moorehouse

I was born and raised in Port Elizabeth.  In a previous life, I was a registered nurse and I am currently an EHS consultant.

I love life, have a positive outlook on life and try my best to lead a healthy lifestyle. My family is important to me, with my definition of family being not only the people that I share a gene pool with, but also the friends that I chose to be a part of my family. In my spare time, I enjoy nature, gardening and both viewing and creating art.

My inspiration for this art piece:

The title of my bodice is “Broken Wing”

My bodice has wings made from natural material. She has one broken wing. Living through a difficult path in life, we are all left a little bit broken in one way or another, but we put ourselves back together again.  We might still be broken in places, but often we are a better version of ourselves. We can still live life well, even with a broken wing.

I find my inspiration, for life and art, in nature.

In nature, I find my peace, my hope and my balance. In nature, I find the Creator.

Nature taught me that nothing in life is permanent, that there is constant change and so we must live in each season as it passes and remember that after every dark moment there will be light.

That is why I used material from my garden to create this piece.
