Artist’s Biography: Marinthea Thiel
Marinthia Thiel is a South African artist and pioneer in minimalistic art expression. Throughout her life she was fascinated by contrasting media and creating visual depth and perception that we can identify with. Having run a dental laboratory in the UK for several years her familiarity with the art of sculpture and precision becomes evident as well as her love for metal manufacturing. She questions conventional boundaries between various media and prefers iron and clay as mediums. Marinthia also specialises in building custom decorative elements for large scale events.
My inspiration for this art piece:
This contemporary sculpted art piece contrasts the traditional paternal and constricted roles women have been subjected to for decades. Through knowledge, the modern world and connectedness with the self, the past has now become unacceptable and the woman begins to contest and break free from these confinements.
The physical connection to her neutral and natural paternal roles is ever present and the overpowering feeling of guilt as she tries to overcome these stereotypical roles by activating her passion, leadership, experience and the need to break free from the one-dimensional feminine construct society imposes upon us.
