Artist’s Biography: Louis Thiel
Louis Thiel is a South African artist with a special interest in dentistry, architecture, carpentry and freestanding formwork. Being born and raised in a family of artists and architects, art inspiration came naturally. Louis’ unique ability to work with precision and his ability to find practical artistic solutions to creative challenges is evident in his artwork. His art represents something familiar but unique once viewed from all angles. He sculpts against traditional stereotypes and internalises the viewpoints of his artwork before creation.
My inspiration for this art piece:
This fascinating sculpture depicts the internal conflicts and pain of a mother committed to the struggle of her child battling cancer. Her body, mind and soul are torn as she searches for answers and hopes for treatment that will cure her child and alleviate the suffering. She is constantly reminded and pulled between the needs of her ailing child and the needs of her loved ones on this journey with her.
The mother is raw emotionally and spiritually as she battles her faith, beliefs, her physical strength and the pain that lies beneath, but hope still remains.
