Artist’s Biography: Jacqui Holmes
I am a full-time stained glass artist based in Port ELizabeth. I have been fully operational for almost 10 years. I teach, do commissions, repairs and small restorations. Having come out of an accounting and admin career that spanned almost 22 years, there are no real rules to follow. Creating is the only rule. I LOVE that. I love sharing my passion for glass with others, and showing them that there are just so many applications for stained glass other than huge church & cathedral windows. I strongly believe we are all artistic is some way. ”Everyone is gifted. Some people just never open their package” – Wolfgang Riebe.
I want to show people how beautiful the contents of their creative ”packages” are.
Glass has so much life, especially when light is added. It comes alive!
My inspiration for this art piece:
A close friend of mine was diagnosed with lymphoma at the beginning of 2017. She underwent treatment & went into remission. In July of this year, she was told that her cancer is back and she has been undergoing treatment for a second time. Butterflies have so much meaning for me, symbolic of some of the ugly stages we have to go through in life, before emerging beautiful & whole. Chakras need to be energised for true balance of mind, body & soul. Depicting the butterflies in the places & colours of the chakra energy points in the human body truly speaks to me &, I hope, to others as well. There is a little of everything in all of us.
